NIKI DE SAINT PHALLE - GALERIE DIOR, PARIS

24.11.2023 > 13.05.2024

A place of art and memory, La Galerie Dior sits at the heart of the iconic 30 Montaigne, retracing its extraordinary destiny through the decades and archive pieces that capture the essence of Dior style. From Christian Dior to Maria Grazia Chiuri, this unique museum embodies both the spirit of Parisian couture and the aura of a House in perpetual motion. Today, the Galerie Dior is hosting – from November 24, 2023 to May 13, 2024 – an unprecedented exhibition presenting Dior’s collaborations with women artists.

This new scenographic narrative spotlights the founding links between Dior and creation in all its forms. Even before sketching his first designs, Monsieur Dior had an unconditional passion for art. Forging sincere friendships and fascination from his encounters, he first became a gallery owner. As a couturier, he drew inspiration from these vital affinities, invoking music, literature, painting and architecture in his collections.

These sacred connections are now being celebrated at La Galerie Dior, via the singular universes of several emblematic female personalities, most of whom have woven spellbinding artistic dialogues with Maria Grazia Chiuri. In turn, works by Lillian Bassman, Elina Chauvet, Judy Chicago, Maya Goded, Constance Guisset, Katerina Jebb, Eva Jospin, Brigitte Lacombe, Claude Lalanne, Sarah Moon, Brigitte Niedermair, Shourouk Rhaiem, Niki de Saint Phalle and Yuriko Takagi succeed one another room after room, offering a poetic journey that provides an exceptional reading of the history of the Maison. The reinterpretations of the Lady Dior signed by the female creators of the eight editions of Dior Lady Art are revealed in the Chambre aux merveilles, like a revisited cabinet of curiosities.

All the captivating figures honored here symbolize Dior’s commitment to a plural feminine vision and the powerful sisterhood so dear to the Creative Director of women’s lines.

An odyssey in homage to the House’s constantly renewed inventiveness.
