FRIEZE MASTERS LONDON 2021

13 - 17 October 2021
A7

Born in 1944 in LA, CA, USA. Lives and works in New York, NY, USA.

Allan McCollum is one of the most unique and influential post-conceptual American artists of our time. His work is characterized by a systematic use of large-scale production of single works. Whether sculptures, drawings or photographs, each of his works forms "collections", ranging from a few objects to several thousand. McCollum's seriality reflects his desire to break with the traditional criterion of rarity in artworks. However, behind the apparent massification of his work, he preserves the uniqueness of each element by differentiating it from the whole through subtle variations.

On the occasion of Frieze 2021, we will present a set of iconic and historical pieces from the artist that retrace his production from the beginning of the 70s to the end of the 90's. The visitors will have the possibility to discover a rare monumental canvas made in 1971, Collections of Plaster Surrogates and Perfect Vehicles from the 80's and a Collection of Sixty Drawings created in 1988-90.

McCollum’s work is present the most prestigious institutional collections including, the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the New York MoMA, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Castello di Rivoli in Turin and MAMCO in Geneva.

In 2020, ICA Miami organized Allan McCollum: works since 1960, the artist’s first museum retrospective in the US. Throughout his career, he has been the subject of major solo exhibitions, including the Serpentine Gallery in London in 1990, the Sprengel Museum in Hanover in 1995, and MAMCO in Geneva in 2006.
